Through art I draw upon a variety of media
to present a multi-faceted personal sense of being. My drawing work unknowingly began a path of self discovery, growth, and
healing. This was discovered after doing an exhibit for one of my workshops where my works were displayed chronicologically
according to date. The early works showed great hostility and anger, the later were more colorful and peaceful. The creative
process is meditative in that it invokes a one point focus where outside noise dissapears and you feel at one with the creative
spirit within you. In this non-verbal state suppressed emotions come to light in ways that can be expressed and let go of in
a constructive way that others can identify. My work now creates a juxtaposition of dreams, realities and sensations,
fleeting moments from life inspired by my own experiences through childhood metamorphosing to present.
To me, the figure of a child is autobiographical
and a representation of the individual and ageless constant self. The
physical body indicates innocence and vulnerability in some cases and becomes interchangeable with the spirit. Concrete and abstract,
past present and future are described simultaneously in a single snapshot of
the self.
I explore a sense of empathy for existing
across different places and times, examining personal sensations of deja-vu.
The self may be described by means of a visual diary that extends beyond
contemporary life, moving through times, locations, and states of being,
without a fixed linear chronology. I make use of a variety of media,
including colored pencil, paint, natural found objects and photography.
I was a child of the 1960's growing up in California, a colorful time of getting back to nature and discovery of many mind altering experiences while creating many arts and crafts which
provided a diverse range of tools to explore, visualize and develop
experiences.
My work has been represented in several publications, exhibitions, television series and movies. Workshops have been conducted through the William James Association in correctional settings and community outreach programs. I also accept commissions in a
diverse range of media.
